6-Week Adult Wheel Throwing Class
Tuesday, Feb 24th - March 31st, (6:00pm - 8:00pm), 2026

Time: 2 hours, one day a week, for six weeks.

Looking to learn a new skill? This class is designed for folks of varying skill sets. Never touched clay in your life? You’re more than welcome in this class. Been practicing for a while and looking to tighten up your fundamentals? Don’t worry, you’ll be far from bored here. Taken the class before? Well, prepare to be pushed to really hone your technical skills.
Adult Wheel Throwing for Beginners will be an opportunity for students to work with clay as an exploration of functionality and/or creative expression. Each student will become familiar with the basic thrown forms (Cups, bowls, plates, lidded jars, plates, mugs), decoration, and vocabulary. Be as artsy or functionally focused as one would like.
Recommended for individuals of any skillset, ranging from complete beginner, to intermediate ability. This class is recommended for ages 18+.

Class Make Ups and Cancellations:
We understand that life gets in the way sometimes of our leisure and gifts to ourselves. Make ups will be offered on a case by case basis after a conversation with the instructor.
Full refunds are acceptable two weeks before the start of class. Afterwards we will refund half the class fee up until 5 business days before the start of class. There are no refunds to class fees that no-show or cancel within this 5 business day period.
Student Limit: 5 Person Minimum to Run. 8 person Maximum in the Space
Class Itinerary:
Day 1: Talk about silicosis. Assign shelves and clay. Demonstration on throwing cups/cylinders. Demo on weighing clay, and prepping bats. Explain ten pieces for class, $5 for every extra piece. Demo pot lifter tool. Learn about moisture control and preserve a cup for trimming demo next class. Demo pot lifter tool.
Day 2: Demonstration on reviewing foundations from week one. Demo on trimming last week’s work. Goal is to trim one piece and throw a taller piece than last class. Open studio work time.
Day 3: Demonstration on Shaping and Handles. Goal for the day is a bowl and a mug (handled cup). Open studio work time.
Day 4: Demo on Lids for jars, flange. Goal for the day is one lidded vessel. Open studio work time.
Day 5: Last day to finish wet clay. Demo on plates and colored slips (brush and sgraffito.). End of class, Last Day in Wet Clay! Everything left uncovered.
Day 6: Brief glazing demo with brush, splatter, and dunking techniques. Bisqued pieces returned and day for glazing. Piece must be completed by end of class.
Students will have created a minimum of one cup, bowl, mug, lidded jar, and plate. Student fee covers the materials of 10 thrown forms. Additional forms behind the 10 will be just $5 each to keep and fire.
Class Fee Covers:
Bisque and Glaze Kiln Firings of at least 10 class pieces
Class Clay, Cone 5 Clay, Speckled Brownstone #112 by Standard Clay Company.
Glaze Usage
Access to Studio Tools
